At Christopher Farr, we undertake extensive research to find the perfect blend of wool for our rugs. These rare blend of fleeces have taken years to source, from countries across the globe. We apply meticulous attention to our hand spinning in order to retain the high lanolin content in these yarns which, over time creates an irresistible patina, a feature highly regarded in great antique oriental carpets.

Materials

Wool

Over the years, we’ve experimented with and mastered numerous fibre blends to achieve optimum textural finishes and explored countless methods of hand spinning to create yarns that patinate wonderfully as they age. A naturally sustainable material and durable by its very nature, we source the very finest wools from Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey.

Silk

The design is only part of the story. Much of a rug’s beauty and tactility is down to the materials from which it is made. The most beautiful pattern on paper can fall flat if poor-quality fibres are used. As well as adding softness, silk can create a textural sheen, or be used to create highlighted accents when used in combination with wool.

Plant Fibre

We endeavour not only to source the finest-quality wools, silks, jutes and other natural fibres, but also to push their material possibilities in new aesthetic directions. Combining new combinations of linen, flax, jute and linen, we continue to work closely with our weavers to develop new material possibilities.
